Eggnog Old Fashioned Oats

Dr. Oz featured a segment on the allure of pumpkin spice. He offered that there really isn’t a pumpkin spice rather a combination of spices that combined we refer to as pumpkin spice. The coffee industry, among other industries, go nuts for this combination of spices.

This is me raising my hand. I love pumpkin spice. The smell ushers in fall. We loved all things pumpkin spice until a new love rushed in to town. Yes, you know it, it’s eggnog.

Eggnog is basically sweetened milk, nondairy in our case, with nutmeg and it’s oh so good. My daughter calls it Christmas milk. In the same way pumpkin spice milk was pumpkin milk. Her affection for both of these milks offers quite the discussion at Whole Foods as to why they don’t have it anymore. Explaining to a 4-year-old that pumpkin and Christmas milk is seasonal is a lost effort.

Eggnog Old Fashioned Oats Ingredients

This year our favorite seasonal milks were made by Good Karma Foods. As compared to other brands, Good Karma Foods managed to keep the sugar down while maintaining great flavor.

This week I combined 2 of our favorite things: old fashioned oats and eggnog. Why not? And the result was an empty pot.

Eggnog Old Fashioned Oats

1 cup of Old Fashioned Oats

1 cup of Good Karma Foods Eggnog

1 cup of water

1 tbs of coconut sugar

2 tbs of flax and chia blend milled

½ tsp of cinnamon

¼ tsp of nutmeg

Sliced Apples

Toasted Walnuts

Eggnog Old Fashioned Oats

  1. In a medium sauce pot on low to medium heat, combine all ingredients and stir.

  2. Cook according to oat manufactures instructions. This was about 10 minutes for me.

  3. Continue stirring until a creamy texture is reached.

  4. Serve and top with sliced apples and toasted walnuts.
